Erbium: YAG Laser

Erbium: YAG Lasers are solid-state lasers that work by emitting a wavelength of high-energy light which focuses on a certain skin condition by creating heat and destroying diseased cells. It is capable of treating skin disorders such as atrophic acne scars, herpes simplex scars, smallpox scars, sun-damaged skin, facial wrinkles, uneven pigments, seborrhoeic keratosis, non-melanoma skin cancers, and birthmarks.

The output of an Erbium: YAG Laser is strongly absorbed by water. They are widely used for medical procedures when deep penetration of the tissues is not desired. Erbium: YAG Laser is also used for medical aesthetic procedures such as the laser resurfacing of human skin.

The Erbium: YAG Laser System

Erbium: YAG Laser offers complete ablation and coagulation control for the aesthetician who is carrying out the procedure, enabling the treatments to be tailored to each specific skin condition to achieve perfect results in skin laser resurfacing.

Erbium: YAG Laser is an ideal choice for skin rejuvenation and scars. Erbium: YAG Laser works by targeting the water in our skin, vaporizing the skin with a micro fractionated laser beam, keeping healthy tissues in between to speed up healing. This keeps undesired effects such as hypopigmentation and persistent erythema, as well as recovery time, to a minimum.

FAQs

1. How does this procedure minimise wrinkles?

The loss of collagen is one of the reasons why wrinkles form. This laser treatment stimulates the production of collagen under the skin, causing it to plump up naturally. In the process, the wrinkles will slowly disappear from the skin’s surface.

2. Are there any side effects?

The good news is that the side effects are greatly reduced with this new procedure. Detailed explanation is below.

3. What happens after the treatment?

After the treatment, your skin may experience a mild sunburn sensation with virtually no discomfort. Do expect a slight pinkish tone for 5 to 7 days, with minimal swelling that resolves itself in 2 to 3 days. This means that there is good circulation, the dermal tissues are being repaired and the skin is experiencing deep healing.

Fresh epidermal skin is created immediately. This means that you may apply makeup or shave after the treatment. Patients can go back to work the next day or right after the procedure if they feel comfortable doing so. It may be helpful to note the process of skin repairs below:

Bronzing:

Expect your skin to have a bronze appearance that lasts anytime from 3 to 14 days, depending on the treatment level.

Flaking:

As the reorganized epidermal skin replaces dead skin tissues, your skin will naturally and vigorously exfoliate. This results in flaking that is similar to that of minor sunburn, but without the associated pain. The use of moisturizers will help alleviate the appearance of flaking.

Sunscreen::

After treatment, it is advisable to apply sunscreen at least twice daily to protect your skin from sun exposure during the healing phase. This can be continued for several months after treatment. Use a moisturizing sunblock with an SPF of at least 30-plus and wear wide-brimmed hats when under direct sunlight.
