Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is also known as intense pulsed light technology and is not a laser treatment. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses multi-spectrum and broad lights with multiple wavelengths. The light energy is more scattered and much weaker. This means that it has more unfocused energy around the hair and skin area.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) works thanks to melanin (the pigment in our hair). The melanin helps the hair to absorb the light from the flashes and stimulates it to go into its resting phase, leaving you with smooth and hair-free skin.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment is very effective for hair removal. It essentially disables the hair follicles, making them incapable of producing further hair growth.

IPL for Hair Removal

The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) System

The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy uses a high-density burst of light to reach the unwanted hair follicle. During the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment, light is emitted and absorbed by the melanin, the hair then rapidly absorbs this filtered light and transfers it to the surrounding cells that in turn are converted into heat. The heat can be raised to a temperature of 70 degrees Centigrade or more. The heating disables the cells making them incapable and delays production further hair growth.

Although the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment effectively delays hair growth for long periods, multiple treatments are needed for the initial hair removal and maintenance treatments might be needed as well. This treatment is most effective for those with light skin and dark hair.
